I'm done! (The blog that counts for November 17-November 24)

So I've finished! After cramming writing into every waking hour (which is why there aren't any blogs for the 17th through yesterday), and some hours that should've been sleeping hours but weren't, I have written my novel. So far it's at 50,788 words, but I haven't actually finished the story yet, so I'll be continuing it throughout the year and the first half of next year until the free copy coupon expires. And hopefully, after all the editing I'll be doing (which will be a lot), it will still be 50k.


So yeah. This has definitely been a worthwhile experience. I'm happy I did it.

Words today: Only about a thousand.

Day 16

Probably won't get anything written today. I'm 10,000 words short. Crap. I need inspiration. I'll be spending most of my Thanksgiving break writing 20,000. Hopefully.

Day 15

Didn't write much today. Meh.

Day 14

I didn't blog yesterday. Why? Because I didn't write.

Today, I wrote about 400 words. I boosted my count by distributing all of my contractions.

I got a working title: Aloneness. It's a working title, okay? It will most certainly change.

And a cover. Isn't it gorgeous?

Tomorrow, I will be doing the unthinkable: I will write a scene for the Traveling Shovel of Death. It shall be lengthy and epic.

Words today: Not enough.

Day 12

So I'm still about a week behind, but I wrote 2,000 words today, so I'm happy. But not really, since I'm still 5,000 words behind.

I really need to work on this consistency thing.

Day 10

So I didn't get any writing done today. The grade cutoff for midterms is tomorrow, so I intended to get all of the math work I'm missing done, but drama ran late and I had been running off of 4 hours of sleep the entire day, so when I got home I did pretty much nothing.

We have Friday off. Then I will write. I will write like the wind. And if I don't get AHEAD of what I need by at least a thousand words, I will punish myself. Somehow.

Didn't write today. Did homework instead. It was boring. I hate blogging off my iPod.

I'm behind about 300 words today. But it's better than 5,000. My character had a lot of insight today.

Day 7

I actually wrote today! Praise the NaNo heavens! And I got some pretty good parts in there too. My MC met some new friends, only to leave them a few days later, but I had never intended to even have their characters in the story, so it's totally all good. I've regained my confidence. Now must sleep, have school tomorrow.

So it's my birthday, and while I've been trying to fit in a few words here and there, I haven't managed. So today was a fail. I'll cram and get the 5,000 words I'm missing in tomorrow, though.

So this is another day that I've stayed up writing past midnight, so technically it's day 6. 


And it's my birthday! Woo!

But, uh, yeah. I didn't get way too many words down (not enough to bother updating my word count, anyway), but I did get some planning done for a really big plot point, so I'm content.

Day 4

So technically speaking, it's already day five. It's almost 1 AM. I have school in the morning. But that's one of the risks of WriMo, right? I hope so. Yeah.

I've printed out what I have so far (about 3 chapters) because my friends are begging to read it. I need to buy new black ink, because chapter one is printed in red ink.

In five minutes it will be day 4. I'm incredibly tired, but I'm happy that I reached my word count today. Now I must sleep.

Day 2

So today, a few things happened:

A) I got to the first exciting event in my story. Cue shouts of joy.
B) I didn't get my 4 days worth of math homework done that were due next week.

But that's okay, right? I mean a side effect of NaNoWriMo can be losing time for homework, right?

Oh well, it's not like I put too much effort into it in the first place.

My main character Ella and her friend/roommate Summer are fighting about how obnoxious Ella things Summer's boyfriend, Jeremy is. Ella's winning at the moment. I have a feeling I'll have to sleep on this particular part.

Day 1

So for my first day of NaNo-ing, this probably went pretty well. Sure, my plot bunnies fled my mind the moment I sat down at my laptop, and maybe I couldn't remember what half of the notes on my outline were referring to, but I got 72 more words than I had to, which, while it isn't exactly much of an advantage, is still more than the word count I had to get.

I've pledged to myself that for every day I don't make 1,667 words, I'll listen to Justin Bieber's obnoxious, repetitive music for an hour straight.

Trust me, that's a reason to write.
